Marine Electronics Training Built for the Moments That Matter
Hands-on instruction in radar, sonar, thermal imaging, and GPS navigation. Open to every mariner, and specialized for first responders who can’t afford a missed contact.
Core Electronics Courses
Each course covers three things: how to operate the equipment, how to tune it for the conditions in front of you, and how to set it up correctly from the start.
Course 1 - Marine Radar
- See traffic, shoreline, weather, and targets in darkness, fog, and rain.
- Operation: range scales, plotting, target tracking, collision avoidance
- Tuning: gain, sea clutter, rain clutter, interference rejection
- Setup: heading alignment, display modes, guard zones
Course 3 - Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR)
- Find people, vessels, and debris by heat signature when the eye can’t.
- Operation: thermal image interpretation, search patterns, pan/tilt control
- Tuning: contrast, palettes, image enhancement for water conditions
- Setup: mounting, network integration, display configuration

Course 2 - Sonar & Sounders
- Read what’s under the hull, from depth and bottom contours to submerged objects.
- Operation: interpreting returns, down and side imaging
- Tuning: frequency, gain, range, noise and sensitivity settings
- Setup: transducer placement, calibration, troubleshooting
Course 4 - GPS & Chartplotter Navigation
- Navigate precisely, mark positions, and share them fast.
- Operation: waypoints, routes, man-overboard and position marking
- Tuning: chart layers, datums, alarms, data fields
- Setup: antenna placement, system integration, backup practices
Real vessels, real equipment, real conditions. Students learn on the same electronics they will rely on during a response.

The Three Skills in Every Course
Owning the equipment isn’t the same as getting the most from it.
Basic Operation
Confident, correct use of every core function, from power-up to shutdown.
Tuning for Optimization
Adjust settings for sea state, weather, and mission so the picture is clean and trustworthy.
Proper Setup
Install, configure, and verify systems so they perform when it counts.
Specialized for First Responders
Our core focus is the responder on the water. Scenarios are built around real response work rather than recreational use.
- Search and rescue target detection and search patterns
- Night, fog, and low-visibility operations
- Locating persons in the water and vessels in distress
- Sharing accurate positions with crews and dispatch
- Integrating electronics into a multi-sensor response workflow
- Quick-start habits for crews who share vessels
